FibroBoost® contains SEANOL-F, a patented extract of brown algae. Seaweed or algae plants have long been used by traditional crops around the world for food and medicine.

Ecklonia cava, called noro-kajime in Japan, is an edible brown alga that serves as the source of SEANOL-F. E. cava is used commercially as a source of hydrocolloids, such as alginate, and as an ingredient in soup in Asia. It is also considered a source of iodine. SEANOL-F is a standardized complex of unique natural molecules from E. cava. SEANOL-F contains florotanins, polyphenolic compounds that land plants do not have, but only some types of brown algae.

Extracts of E. cava rich in florotanins exhibit significant antioxidant activities, including the removal of DPPH radicals, the reduction of ferric ions, the removal of peroxynitrites, and the inhibition of LDL oxidation.

As well as modulating levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), florotanins can modulate levels of PGE2, cytokines and prostaglandins. Unlike polyphenols obtained from land plants, Seanol polyphenols are 40% soluble in oil. They can cross the blood-brain barrier and have a much longer metabolic half-life than conventional hydrophilic polyphenols: up to 12 hours versus usually 30 minutes. Since 1992, in vitro studies, animal studies, and human trials have consistently shown that Seanol compounds have an amazing potential for health promotion without any signs of toxicity.
